Meet Carly Nahin, LCSW

Experience

Carly has lived with type one diabetes since she was 15 years old, giving her a deep, personal understanding of the day-to-day realities that come with managing a chronic illness since adolescence. She has navigated high school, college, and graduate school while balancing insulin pumps, doctor’s appointments, and the ongoing demands of diabetes care. This lived experience fuels her passion for supporting others in the type one community with empathy, authenticity, and a true understanding of navigating life with diabetes.

Carly began her career as an inpatient social worker in gastroenterology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, supporting pediatric patients and their families during hospitalization. She later joined UCLA as a clinical social worker in pediatrics, working with children receiving transplants and other medical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In both roles, she provided counseling, emotional support, resource coordination, and advocacy to help families with the challenges of illness and hospitalization.

Currently, Carly is a licensed clinical social worker at the Simms/Mann Center, where she supports adolescent and young adult patients facing oncology diagnoses. She creates a safe, supportive environment by addressing the unique psychosocial stressors of this age group and provides trauma-informed care through individual therapy, emotional support, and connection to resources for patients and their families.

Her therapeutic approach blends evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), strengths-based therapy, and client-centered care. She also draws from humanistic and relational approaches to create a warm, compassionate environment where your story matters, and your voice leads the way.

Carly is incredibly grateful and excited to begin this private practice journey alongside Amanda. She deeply values Amanda’s clinical expertise, compassion, and dedication to the field, and feels honored to partner with such a skilled and thoughtful clinician.

Education

Carly earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of California at Riverside and went on to complete a Master of Social Work at Loma Linda University. During graduate school, she completed two meaningful internships. The first was at an alternative high school, where she supported students through individual counseling, group work, and reintegration planning. In her second internship at Loma Linda Medical Center, she provided support to patients and families in palliative care and the cardiothoracic ICU as they navigated chronic and advanced illnesses. These experiences, along with guidance from skilled social workers, played a key role in shaping Carly’s professional growth and approach to the field.

Interests and Passions

Carly’s passion for working with the type one diabetes community began when she was diagnosed with T1D at age 15. This personal experience has inspired her to specialize in supporting individuals with type one diabetes, allowing her to give back to a community that has played a significant role in her own life. Outside of her work, Carly enjoys spending time with friends and family and exploring new places around Los Angeles. She loves being outdoors, watching sports, and playing softball. At home, she relaxes with her two dogs, Koa and Sulley, and her cat, Rebel.
